On “Sunday Night Football,” the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers faced off in a highly anticipated Week 5 matchup. The Cowboys were seeking revenge for two previous postseason losses to their rival in the 1990s.
However, the 49ers showed they are currently playing in a class of their own by defeating the Cowboys 42-10. The Niners and the Philadelphia Eagles are currently the only two unbeaten teams in the NFL, following last year’s NFC championship game matchup.
Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes, with three of them caught by tight end George Kittle, who finished with all three of his receptions being touchdowns. Kittle’s second touchdown catch was on a trick play that went for 38 yards.
Christian McCaffrey scored a touchdown in his 14th straight game, tying the record set by Hall of Famer and former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith in 1995.
Linebacker Fred Warner forced a fumble early in the game and later intercepted Dak Prescott, who threw three interceptions in total.
The Cowboys’ offense relied heavily on Prescott’s throwing ability, as they were outgained on the ground by a significant margin of 170-57.
This loss was the second-largest defeat during Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy’s tenure.
